Week 16 Matchup: Saints at Cowboys

When the Saints have the ball: START QB Drew Brees. Brees has thrown for over 300 yards in each of the last three games. The Cowboys have given up 300 yards in two of the last four. Make that three of five. START WRs Lance Moore and Marques Colston. The Cowboys have not allowed a WR to top 93 yards in six weeks but have given up eight WR touchdowns in those games. Colston has had between 60 and 71 yards in four of the last five weeks, which isn’t exciting, but solid. Lance Moore has topped 100 yards or … Continue reading

Week 16 Matchup: Bengals at Steelers

When the Bengals have the ball: START QB Andy Dalton. The Steelers are among the best pass defenses in the league when Ike Taylor is shutting down the other team’s top wide receiver. Unfortunately for Pittsburgh, he’s not playing this week. In the two weeks without Taylor, the Steelers have given up multiple touchdown passes in each game, something that they did not do in the previous eight games. Dalton hasn’t put up huge numbers recently, but he has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 13 straight games. While I don’t think Dalton is the best option this week, … Continue reading

Week 16 Matchup: Rams at Buccaneers

When the Rams have the ball: START QB Sam Bradford.  Why you would be using Sam Bradford is beyond my comprehension at this point, but if you need him you can feel good about starting him this week.  Bradford gets a Bucs defensive unit that has given up multiple TD passes in three consecutive weeks, while not surrendering less than 242 yards through the air since week six.  Over the last two weeks they have also let both Drew Brees (307 & 4) and rookie, Nick Foles (381 & 2) have their way with them.  Given that Bradford had a … Continue reading

Week 16 Matchup: 49ers at Seahawks

When the 49ers have the ball: BENCH QB Colin Kaepernick. Well this is a tough one. Can you possibly bench Kaepernick after his epic performance on national TV against the Patriots last week? The answer; yes. The Seahawks are at almost the complete opposite end of the spectrum from the lenient Patriots secondary. Only three QBs have tossed more than 1 TD pass against them all season (they’ve allowed a league-low total of just 12 passing TDs), and opposing passers average just 214 YPG against them. At home, the Seahawks allow just 180 YPG. Kaepernick is always a threat … Continue reading

Week 16 Matchup: Bears at Cardinals

When the Bears have the ball: START RB Matt Forte: At this point, we don’t have to tell you that Forte is a long shot for a rushing TD. He has a paltry six of those precious six-pointers in his last 25 games, and you pretty much signed up for that frustration. However, Forte is in the midst of a yardage resurgence, with an average of 116 combo yards over his last three outings. This is in large part due to a long-overdue re-integration of Forte into the passing game, which has been downright begging for a complement to Brandon … Continue reading

Week 16 Matchup: Titans at Packers

When the Packers have the ball: START QB Aaron Rodgers.  The king of the “Discount Double-Check” pumped some new life into fantasy owners last week as he went 23-for-36 for 291 yards and 3 TDs.  Prior to that game Rodgers was killing his owners as he had gone three straight games without throwing for more than 1 TD.  This matchup isn’t great for him as the Titans have held opposing QBs in check over the last five weeks.  During that stretch the Titans are only giving up an average of 202 YPPG and only two QBs have thrown for multiple … Continue reading

Week 16 Matchup: Redskins at Eagles

When the Eagles have the ball:  BENCH QB Nick Foles.  The Redskins have been your classic Jekyl & Hyde defense this season.  During the first seven games of the season they were absolutely atrocious as they gave up a total of 15 TD passes and an average of 330 YPG.  Since week eight they have dropped that yardage number to 253 YPG and have given up 1 passing TD or less in four of their seven games.  With Foles only throwing for multiple TDs and topping 300 yards once this season, this is simply a game with too many risks … Continue reading

Week 16 Matchup: Bills at Dolphins

When the Bills have the ball: BENCH QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.  The Bills signal callers history against the Dolphins is less than fantastic to say the least.  In his last four meetings with the Fish, Fitzpatrick is averaging 229 YPG, and has failed to throw a TD in two of those four contests.  Recent history is not on his side either.  Over their last six games, the Dolphins defense hasn’t allowed an opposing QB to throw for more than 224 yards in any game.  Add in the fact that they have given up exactly one TD pass through the air over … Continue reading

Week 16 Matchup: Giants at Ravens

When the Ravens have the ball: START QB Joe Flacco. The Giants just got done getting absolutely decimated by a Falcons team that had a gimpy Roddy White and Harry Douglas. This leads us to wonder whether they can actually stop a good offense. Of course, the Ravens have not been mistaken for a good offense anytime recently and they actually looked worse last week with Jim Caldwell calling the plays. Joe Flacco has the arm strength to throw for some serious yards but he also has the accuracy of t-shirt cannon. He also possesses one of  the most ridiculous … Continue reading

Week 16 Matchup: Colts at Chiefs

When the Colts have the ball: START QB Andrew Luck. Only four times all season have the Chiefs held an opposing QB to less than 2 TD passes. One of those times was against Ben Roethlisberger, who was injured in the first half of a Week 10 contest, and two of the others came in the last two weeks against Brandon Weeden and Bad Carson Palmer. Luck has been on an every-other-week pattern in terms of alternating multi-TD games with 1-TD games since Week 11. This would be an “other” week if you believe in that kind of trend, but … Continue reading
